What made you decide to become a legal executive?

I had a 6 week contract as a clerk in the Auckland High Court which turned into an ongoing role training as a cadet and spending time learning all Civil Court aspects then a role in, (what was) Otahuhu District Court as a Youth Court Clerk…it all fascinated me but with 4 young children under 7 years I couldn’t train as a lawyer so Legal Executive it was.

Where did you study and what was your favourite subject?

I studied remotely through the Open Polytechnic.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t give up…it doesn’t matter how long it takes just keep moving in the right direction..Do it once…do it well! From my Dad who’s run his own business since he was 21.

Do you have any hobbies / interests outside of work?

Raising chickens, gardening, gentle cycling, yoga, swimming and helping people (I have a constant stream of boarders at my house who all seem to require some form of “mothering”.

If I wasn’t a legal executive I would be...

A chicken and Alpaca farmer and Alpaca fleece spinner, weaver and clothing designer.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping first home buyers and making complicated legal issues easy for the layperson to understand -especially around Wills and estate planning. As a natural introvert, I also love being busy and challenged every day to connect with and relate to colleagues and clients.
